Since then, alongside treatment, she has been volunteering and working to raise awareness of the stigmas attached to lung cancer patients. O'Brien, who has never smoked, has a genetic mutation called Anaplastic lymphoma kinase and now takes over 20 pills per day as part of her treatment. "I just take it one day at a time," said O'Brien. "It's a lot different than the normal 31-year-old's life. I miss working. I miss having energy to do a simple things like going grocery shopping."
