Crystal Lake Library clerk Maggie Sances sorts returned books and DVDs by hand Monday, July 25, 2016 in the book drop room. Currently, returned books take up to 72 hours to be removed from a patron's account. With a proposed new automated book return system the account would be credited when the book is returned. The Crystal Lake City Council voted unanimously to place an advisory referendum on the November ballot asking city voters if they would be willing to pay $30 million to build a new library at the existing site on Paddock St.
