William Gee poses for a portrait behind the bar of the New China restaurant Thursday in Fox River Grove. On January 3, 2013, a grease fire caused between $150,000 and $200,000 in damage to the restaurant. Due to expenditures related to building code compliances during construction, New China has encountered financial shortages from insurace coverage. Several local businesses have turned to crowd funding to raise money to keep the business alive. The restaurant's crowd funding efforts have currently raised only 5% of their goals.
