Frozen tipped the scale at 1,222 pounds and placed second in the open class division. Last winter one of the family's cows gave birth prematurely on a cold, winter night, resulting in a deadly situation for the newborn. The calf was just barely breathing out of one nostril and his eyes were frozen shut. The calf did lose half of its ear and has some scarring on its nose. Frozen will be auctioned off at the fair’s Hansen Pavilion on Saturday, where McHenry County businesses can bid on the calves.
