A morning thunderstorm that brought heavy rain and winds first arrived near Harvard, where quarter-sized hail touched the ground around 10:30 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. The hail storm made its way through McHenry County for the next hour, with Algonquin seeing hail 2 inches in diameter. The Crystal Lake area reported hail 1.75 inches in diameter, while Woodstock and Marengo saw 1-inch diameter hail touch the ground.
