On April 11, 2015, 50 years to the date, the Historical Society of Island Lake held a commemorative program remembering the 1965 Palm Sunday Tornado that struck Island Lake. Over 35 homes were completely destroyed and one little boy, Chuckie Pokorny was killed that day.
