Donna Volpi, from Crystal Lake, gets some help from her grand daughter Mercedes Goslawski, 10, as they work in their garden at the Nunda Township Garden plots on Saturday, June 4, 2016 in Crystal Lake. Residents learn to grow their own vegetables through Garden Connect, a pilot program launched by the Northern Illinois Food Bank, The U of I Extension and community partners, including the McHenry County Department of Health.

The program connects Crystal Lake Food Pantry patrons with volunteer gardening experts to show them how to grow their own food on land donated by Nunda Township in its township garden plot.
